Is World Handicap System (WHS) handicap truly the same everywhere in the world?
While World Handicap System was supposed to unify golf handicaps across the world, unfortunately it did not go all the way. There are regional variations of how the WHS handicapping works. Specifically:
- In Australia, an addition 0.93 multiplier is used to compute the daily handicap. More information: https://www.golf.org.au/whs/
- In the United Kingdom, nine-hole rounds are treated differently. Rather than two nine-hole rounds being combined and used as an 18-hole round, each nine-hole round is scaled up to 18 holes and used directly in the handicap calculation.
